Rue Lucien Wercollier was once a national road (CR181), also known as ‘rue de Strassen.’ It was not until 19 years after the completion of the Bridel bypass and roundabout that Rue Lucien Wercollier was reclassified as a municipal road in December 2021. It is now possible to redevelop Rue Lucien Wercollier to address the needs of local residents. The redevelopment project covers an area of 6,800 m2, with a length of 450 meters. The plan includes traffic calming measures, the creation of 34 parking spaces, planting 60 trees, and establishing meeting areas to promote social cohesion.
Mobility concept
The development of the Rue Lucien Wercollier is characterised by an approach which emphasises mobility:
- 30 kph zone: The street will be laid out as a 30 kph zone from the start of the Rue Lucien Wercollier to the Rue Henri Thill.
- 20 kph residential zone: From the intersection with the Rue Henri Thill to the end of the street, the residential zone will be limited to 20 kph.
The main objective is to calm traffic and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The differentiation of pavements between 30 kph and 20 kph zones will help to make traffic areas more legible.
In addition, the creation of meeting spaces with street furniture will result in a more pleasant environment and strengthen the sense of community among residents.
Technical aspects
The project includes major renewal of the technical infrastructure:
- Drinking water pipes: essential replacement to improve service to the whole municipality.
- Rainwater and wastewater: installation of a new rainwater axis and renewal of the wastewater axis.
- Gas mains: laying a new gas main to ensure better gas distribution.
- Electrical network: modernisation and renewal of electrical infrastructure.
- Fibre optic connection: new POST fibre optic connection, a crucial element in improving digital connectivity.
Progress of the work
During the construction phase, the works will be scheduled in advance:
- Traffic: one lane of traffic will be maintained and controlled by traffic lights to minimise disruption.
- Access to private plots: access to private property will be guaranteed throughout the works.
- Exceptional closures: the road will be closed to traffic for 48 hours for the laying of the asphalt, requiring careful planning to limit inconvenience.
This ambitious project aims to transform the Rue Lucien Wercollier into a more convivial, secure and sustainable space, while modernising the infrastructure essential to the well-being of residents.
