Certification

The commune of Kopstal has been certified for its commitment to nature conservation. Thanks to its efforts and the implementation of a series of measures, the commune has achieved basic certification under the Nature Pact with a score of 44.03%.

Principle & objectives

Like the Climate Pact, the Nature Pact is an instrument designed to promote municipal initiatives aimed at preserving and restoring biodiversity.

Local authorities are important partners of the State in the protection of nature and natural resources. Through their political decisions, they can make a significant contribution to improving the biodiversity situation and providing ecosystem services.

By following the Nature Pact's catalogue of 77 measures, local authorities are guided towards a sustainable policy in the areas of biodiversity conservation in urban, open, aquatic and forest environments. For example, the catalogue suggests that local authorities develop their green spaces in harmony with nature, prevent soil sealing, encourage residents to create gardens that are favourable to insects, and combat light pollution. Restoring wetlands and improving the resilience of forests are also among the measures aimed at adapting to climate change. Finally, the pact also provides for the strengthening of the model role of local authorities in communicating exemplary actions, information and raising awareness of nature among young and old alike.

By implementing the measures proposed in the catalogue, local authorities are contributing not only to the quantified objectives of the National Nature Conservation Plan (PNPN in French), but also to the implementation of the ecological aspects of the river basin management plan and the strategy for adapting to the effects of climate change.

Local authorities are important partners of the state in the protection of nature and resources, and can make a vital contribution to the protection of biodiversity and natural habitats. They can act not only on the land they own, by preserving healthy ecosystems and ensuring sustainable management, but they have much greater scope for action by taking political decisions that are favorable to the environment, by serving as a model for their citizens in terms of environmentally-friendly management, and even by offering incentives to citizens, businesses and operators located on their communal territory.

Working together for a sustainable future

By adhering to good practice in climate protection and nature conservation, we are ensuring a more sustainable future for our children and future generations.

The commune of Kopstal is committed to climate and nature protection and will continue to do so.
