The history and the coat-of-arms

The origins of the commune

The commune of Kopstal was created by the law of February 22, 1853, which detached Kopstal from the commune of Kehlen and Bridel from the commune of Steinsel to form a new commune.

The division of the coat of arms alludes to the two localities of the commune: Kopstal and Bridel. The green part symbolizes the forests that cover a large part of the commune's territory, while the blue part recalls the many captured springs found in the commune, which make a significant contribution to Luxembourg City's drinking water supply.

Finally, the wicker branch symbolizes the basket-making industry that flourished in Kopstal at the beginning of the twentieth century, as well as the vast wicker groves that were to be found there at the time - wicker groves, incidentally, that gave rise to the present-day toponym "Weidendall".
