Declaration of a partnership

Both partners who have reached the age of majority must have an official and joint residence address within the municipality of Kopstal.

Required documents

  1. Valid identity card for EU citizens, valid passport for non-EU citizens, and Luxembourg residence documents for non-Luxembourg citizens.
  2. An integral copy of the birth certificate dated within 3 months (Luxembourg and France) and within 6 months for certificates issued by another country.
  3. If you were not born in Luxembourg, you must apply for a nil certificate using the attached form. This certificate will be sent to your postal address and must form part of the file.
  4. Proof of single status (except Luxembourg citizens) : You must prove that you are single by means of a certificate from the country of which you are a citizen (certificat de célibat / certificat de coutume / Ledigkeitsnachweis). It is advisable to contact the official in charge of civil status at the commune if in doubt. For divorced persons: a full copy of the marriage certificate mentioning the divorce or a full copy of the transcript of the divorce. A divorce decree is not sufficient! 
  5. For widows: the death certificate or the birth certificate of the deceased spouse mentioning the death. 
  6. For people who have already entered into and dissolved a partnership: recent certificate of dissolution of the partnership. If the partnership was entered into before 1 November 2010: a recent certificate from the Répertoire Civil registering the dissolution of the declared partnership.

Translation of documents

All foreign documents must be translated either into French, German or English by a sworn translator in Luxembourg or by your country's embassy.

Hague Apostille

All documents issued by a non-EU country must have a Hague Apostille (or legalisation if they come from a country that has not ratified the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961).

Submission of the application and conclusion of the partnership

When the file is complete, please ask for an appointment with the civil registrar on 27 327-203 or by email at population@kopstal.lu to hand over the file.

The deed will be signed at the registrar's convenience, possibly during a second appointment.
